Job Hunting Tips
Spray and pray just does not work. Not in life and not in the job search.
You need consistent focussed efforts towards a singular goal to achieve what you want.
A lot of the folks I have spoken to over the last few months have been getting this wrong. They want to apply for 3 different job profiles (think consulting, product management and program management) and are open to all geopgraphies.
With such a strategy you are applying everywhere and applying nowhere.
The first step is to figure out what roles you want to apply to. My suggestion is 2 similar roles. For example, I was applying to product and project management in startups with less than 500 employees in Europe (Spain, Germany, Netherlands and Ireland). I had justifications for the roles, company size and geographies.
Narrowing your search down this way allows you to explore more spaces, makes it easier to ahve conversations with recruiters since you just have to convince them about a fixed set of skills.
Over the course of the multiple conversations, your story and pitch gets more refined which helps you better your chances with every conversation.
So as a job seeker, your first step is to have your goals clear. Do not spray and pray.
